How to mod items? and how do i know that a specific item can be modded? New player here

You can ask all these questions in one thread. You don't need to make a new thread for every question. ;)

Every piece of item that can be modded will have a Red, Yellow, Blue, or Prismatic (PvP only) set of brackets when you're inspecting a piece of gear. Theses are for the "crafted" mods. You can purchase mods from some vendors for marks if you don't want to go out and farm for exobits. *Note that mods don't affect your CR just your stats. You then drag your mods over to the piece of gear you wish to put the mod into. Each armor piece can only have one colored mod in it at a time, putting a new one in will destroy the existing one.

The linked posts are more in depth guides to Crafting and Modding.

There is a white slot in your armor, but that is for white mods, which are only available from your base mainframe if you have the lair system access purchased from the marketplace and unlocked the mainframe upgrades for tactical mods.

You really don't need mods until you get top tier gear cause your gonna be replacing your gear at a break neck pace

true but it would serve in the ops best interest to learn that you can gain benefit from your gear bonuses even if you mod it with a low level alpha or beta mod.

this may seem like a waste of time to some considering how quickly you're going to go through gear until you reach "top tier" and even then some but making mods, extracting them, collecting bits, making speciatly colers, making exobytes from bits and all that stuff also works towards completing research and development feats which will also earn you skill points in the long run.

new players should spend a little time flying around gotham and metropolis collecting a couple of stacks of exobits and turn then into blue, yellow and red alphas and betas and how to use the basic recovery kits purchased from the r and d vendor (which only recovers 1 mod). I find for a toon in the process of leveling up a couple of unlocked crit bonuses go a long way.

and it doesn;'t hurt to be able to work on your skill points at the same time.

True that its also good for newer players to learn the value of bits So they don't get scammed out of them
