You’re right, I shouldn’t let anyone on here tell me how to spend my money. Especially if it gives my enjoyment. The person in question whom I will not name is a very mean person who gets great joy from being condescending toward others, not just to me. You will most likely encounter this person someday here on the forums inevitably.

No one said Mepps was lying.. but what kind of fallacy is this trying to separate the two? It was a bug with the fortification system and an exploit of the fortification system and it's fairly clear to everyone they weren't disconnected. Maybe on the backend the technical details don't appear so closely inter-connected, I'm not a Dev so I wouldn't know, but since everyone here loves metaphors so much, I'm sure someone can come up with something colorful to depict how it would be very silly to disconnect the two from the perspective of a tester or anyone that is not programming for them.

I swear these forums are hilarious, I had to take a few days break after i been here last time bcs I felt my IQ going down. Let alone the members who got that 10000 k posts badge, those should be tested by specialists to evaluate their intellctual state by the moment theyve made 1k posts.
In this ridiculous thread we have 90 hamsters defending devs, 5 expressing neutral opinion amd 5 defending the playerbase
How is that even a thing when both sides are guilty and only players are to be punished? bunch of clowns, get back to your cosmtetics discussion threads where you belong

I never said anybody said Mepps was lying. AvatarofCake just said we were "free to take Mepps' word for it" so I was just clarifying that Mepps was telling the truth. All I'm saying is that it is inaccurate for anybody to say the exploit was reported on test and that they knew about it. A bug *related* to the eventual exploit was reported on Test, yes, but the exploit itself was not reported. I seriously doubt the devs wanted to lose thousands of dollars in revenue and to ban 800 customers, so if they knew what could have happened I don't think they would have released the episode in the state it was in.

It seems to me like you're willing to make logical leaps to avoid calling it what it is. I don't mind sticking to the semantics you're comfortable with.. ok someone reported a "Bug" not an "Exploit", they both just happen to be almost the exact same thing and an issue with the exact same system.

And I wasn't insinuating for a sec that this was done on purpose.. I'm sure this hurt their wallets a lot more then it did ours.

Exploit aside, they were perfectly fine releasing the episode in the state it was in. Releasing buggy, rushed content is kinda par for the course for them. The only reason they worked so fast and hard to fix the exploit is because they had angry management/investors breathing down their neck. If only they had that kind of work ethic when it came to general game quality.

That being said, both sides are in the wrong. Cheaters deserve to be punished, but the devs need to be held accountable as well.

This couldn't have been avoided because people are greedy and fail to follow TOS rules. As I mentioned before, and I will repeat again; this wasn't the first ban wave. The first ban wave came earlier with the glitching of unlocked time capsule

but all because the bugs come from test to live does NOT mean the development team is greenlighting people to abuse and gain from them. I've seen it time and time again... No matter what bug comes off of test, word will get out, people will make the subconscious decision to either report it(Which is what they should do.) or abuse the crap out of it all for the sake of the meta that's in the game.

"But why have a test server?" A test server is just that, it's to get a rough sketch of what the final product'll probably end up being. Remember the stats-revamp? It went live only a couple of weeks being off test and there was plenty of bugs that went to live as well.(R.I.P Gorilla form lol.)

Test isn't the perfect ground to catch everything, especially given the limited amount of people actually testing what's there on test. I've been on test server and people would be dueling in the watchtower and doing all sorts of stuff unrelated to the game update at hand..

Perhaps it's time for a PS test server if they can do it?

But I digress: The only reason this isn't a clear and cut case and you got exploit sympathizers is because during the last massive glitch exploit(EG: Unlocking Capsules.) people complained over and over again until they got a slap on the wrist. that's where DCUO messed up imo.

Fast forward to now: Another bug went to live off test got abused.. and people are once again wanting another slap on the wrist for it. Act independent of "both sides bro." if you want but I already saw the subtle "/used by mistake." in your post. Nobody uses an exploit more than once by mistake and you know that. Your stance on this matter isn't that different from anybody else's really.

The game can be in a bad state; but not addressing the people who exploited the bug that came to live would only make the game in an even worser state. The ban wave is done to make a statement, to try and weave them off from doing it again, otherwise.. you might as well put all the players who cheated into god mode and let them one shot everything.

I get your upset about the game's quality, but at least it ain't no GTA Definitive Edition. I'll say that much. There's already threads like BumblingB's one that he made on the latest episode which is a good read.

But as far as the topic goes man, the only two sides there are is: Either your apart of the group that reported the bug and let the system be while they worked on it(your account's probably in-tact.. here's a cookie.)

Or.. you were greedy and now you gotta spend your freetime submitting help tickets, you reap what you sow.

Still doesn't mean anything. Never said they were opposing arguments. Context. Simply talking about Both sides of this entire matter. The Glitch itself, and the folks who exploited it and got rekt. It's not that hard to understand if u pay attention to context.

You seem unable to grasp that being "completely neutral" about a situation where only one set of people -- the cheaters -- are at fault means that you are engaging in false moral equivalency.

The cheaters are solely to blame for cheating. The devs are irrelevant to this fact. Being "neutral" about who is the sole party to blame is wrong. You seem unable to grasp this point. The problem is not with my reading ability; the problem is that you write incoherently.

Yes, you continually refuse to acknowledge that there is only one set of people to blame for the cheating and instead keep bringing up "two sides." You continue to refuse to simply condemn the cheaters without also going on and on about the devs. The devs aren't relevant. Bringing them up while assigning blame is wrong. If you want to stop doing that: stop doing that.

So STOP BRINGING IT UP IN EVERY COMMENT, maybe. Repeating the point over and over and over and over and over is not a way to indicate you don't care or that you don't think it's relevant. It's not relevant, so stop bringing up the devs in this context.

If you're tagging me and -again- referring to the responsibility of people who got banned, you either didn't understand what I was saying or you haven't read the 3 page long exchange that went on here, or both?

As to whether this could have been avoided or not - of course it could have. If the bug didn't make it to live no one would've been able to exploit it and no core game systems would be disabled for a long period of time.

Pretty much everything I had to say was already said, so with your permission, I think (or hope) we all have better things to do.

Do yourself a massive favor and stop responding to him, it was very clear from his first response to me that he's not even trying to understand what anyone here is saying, he's just here for attention.

Can you tell me what the testers are saying (according to you?). I already know what Mepps said, I was asking for proof of the allegations made (that the exploit was known and reported to the devs on test).

Can you provide any? Otherwise, it's just a bunch of hot air.
  14. MsTickle Fate Devoted Player

Hint: this is a discussion forum. It's appropriate for people to comment on the comments of others. Commenting is not stopping anyone from saying whatever they want, and it makes zero sense to assert that discussion forums should "leave them [other commenters] alone" when the entire point of the forums is to comment.

So, to recap: you believe that nobody in the forums should tell anyone else what to do and thus you tell people that they shouldn't tell other people what to do.

Yeah, that makes perfectly incoherent sense.

    You failed.

If you didn't want to start a new argument, the best way to do that would have been to not make this post starting an entirely new argument about what people "should" do, let alone an utterly self-contradictory argument ("people shouldn't tell others what to do unless they're me telling other people what they shouldn't do").[/quote]

Elaborate please. Were the devs made aware of the details of the bug, such as how to reproduce it, what caused it, how it occurred, or other circumstances that would enable them to track it down?

Hi there, Yes they were. I'm not sure what else are you looking for? Print Screens of conversations? because if that is the case I'm sorry but I don't have any. In any case Mepps himself admits to have gotten information about the bug from a tester, I'm sure you are well aware this bug is basically the fortification system showing XP unfit for certain items still being eligible for use. If you're looking for something else you got me confused.
  18. MsTickle Fate Devoted Player

No offense intended, but, as I said, you're incoherent and can't even recognize the most simple of self-contradictions.

If something has "two sides," they're opposing sides. There's no such thing as "two sides" that aren't opposing. What you're saying is gibberish.

The other side of one side is the opposing side. By definition.
  19. Shark Dental Devoted Player

I mean, you don't have any posts to link to or anything? I'm not just going to take your word for "yes, there were."
  20. Jacob Dragonhunter Steadfast Player

I understood everything in your post.

Your post was mixing two different topics together, you went on a rant about people making comparisons to theft(Which I'll grant you that, that was not needed.) But then you also tried to make the topic about "How the game quality sucks and that the glitch is the devs fault.:"
Again, your stance isn't different from the people in the exploit sympathizer camp. They pretty much would see it the same way you did.

The bug was going to make it to live because it was only on Live that they got enough people to help them reproduce it, track it down, and fix it. As I've said before, test server as it is ain't sufficient enough to get bugs fixed or prevent them from heading to live as is. And again, nobody tells people to go exploit it.

And please, don't @me with the whole "I have better things to do" shtick; your the one who's gone out of their way to assume people like Proxy were working for the developers all because they agreed with the decision that was handed down. Stop getting bent out of shape, thank you.

The matter of fact is the developers already made the decision to go ahead and terminate the accounts involved in the cheating, the case was already done. But per usual, here comes the crowd of saints claiming they are innocent or somehow the dev team should take accountability.

Like imagine going to World of Warcraft and telling Blizzard that instead of banning people for using bots in their game, that it's Blizzard's fault for allowing bots and that Blizzard should take accountability, that logic is pathetic.

Players made the choice to do the action against their terms of service, they need to deal with it.
