A little bit of positivity in regards to the Time Capsule

No, it was in response to your comment about 'they are tremendously successful' and 'They bring in a lot of income' ...much like crack. That doesn't negate the fact that they can be a negative thing for the game or that most of the community can be against them. That's the comparison and it fits fine. TCs, although successful, are not necessarily enjoyed by most.

The only thing I would add to separating players out into those who want the cosmetics rather than the feats is this.

There are players who want to play the game and are just not that fussed about playing fancy dress with their character. 99% of cosmetics I don’t even look at. I have all the TC feats (bar 2 of the ones that came out just yesterday). It would be impossible to make use of all of it anyway. I sometimes change my colour schemes a little but I haven’t changed a style item on any of my three main characters for years. I like how they look. I didn’t play with Action Man dolls as a kid either.

Time Capsules are just a nefarious scam to me, that keep me grinding the broker all year round for the feats. Every feat I get without spending real money is a middle finger to Jack Emmert.

That price would assume you don't get any duplicates, and essentially eliminate all RNG from the capsule and the game would likely lose money on capsules.

I don't do statistics for a living, but it looks like without weighted rng you would need to open on average 150 TCs to get everything from the loot picker (assuming no other changes are made). Remember, that's an average, so some could get extremely lucky and only need to open 68, while others could open over 400 and still not get everything.

Now the rare drop outside the loot picker could still have any probability. If it was made 1 out of 150, you would still have the same overall average completion time of the TC as with unweighted rng, but again someone might get it on their first and someone else might not get it after opening 400+. Also, someone could finish everything from the loot picker and still not have received the rare item.

Personally, this still feels expensive, but it also feels obtainable. The current system with weighted RNG, doesn't feel obtainable and makes people not participate either partially or fully. I've basically given up on the collections, and really only open about 15 for that feat then get the rest of the gear and emblems off the broker when prices settle. I also know of some people that don't bother with regular TCs and only open during resurgence.

Removing the rng weighting might entice more people to participate with their wallet, and would lower broker process to a reasonable level (with a higher abundance of all items).

Edit: I should add, under the current system I would not spend $150 on a single TC. With unweighted RNG, I actually might depending on the styles.

So a person who’s very concerned about morality celebrates when people cheat and steal (immoral) okay...

If so many people hate them and are against them, why are they so successful? Call me crazy, but if I hate something that’s not a requirement for me to have, I don’t spend any money on it.

I’m aware. I’m referring to the morality police on the forum.

While I'll agree that as a TC is current you can pick up some of the emblems and gear box feats for 'cheap'. That's a relative term BTW...most new or returning players won't have the stockpile of Stabilizers to open enough TCs to complete the sets via drops, and buying the full sets can still cost 100 million depending on the Back/Head/Chest and whatever the 'big' emblems are. However, someone coming in today who's been gone for a year or 2...or never played..., will have a much harder time completing the "Drowned Pirate", "Green Knight" or "Mid-Nite" sets, or picking up an "Batman Rebirth emblem"....etc. For those same feat points they could queue a few duos or alerts they'd also missed, and get some 'easy' feats with no issues and get more SP than the gear or emblems from a TC will net them. Now...will they get 'Risen Runner' or '4 in a row' with no issues...no, but honestly I'd guess that they could get in LFG and build groups for those feats faster than they could generate the 100's of millions of dollars to buy the emblem and gear feats for a few TCs past.

The fact still remains that putting feats in there is only to drive sales. I doubt the devs are looking out for us and figure the new and returning users can use these 'easy' feats. If the TCs had stuff people wanted (and some do) they'd sell on their own merit. BB's came with some of the more desirable things in the game, like the OG auras that can still bring in top dollar and there were no feats attached to them.

It's not a hand Aura it's an accessory. It looks exactly like the Mechanized Aura.

    Do you read comic books?

Oracle is a major part of the Birds of Prey.
    They’re not wrong.

The emblems and one-offs though. Gear is specifically Oracle inspired, everything else is Oracle and Birds of Prey inspired.

Actually, I was thinking of a different way.

What if they offered in the Marketplace the TC package, offered at $70, and you get all that stuff. No RnG involved.

At the same time, the regular TC is still available to be opened by stabilizers; for those wanting to take the chances of finishing what they contain for less than $70.
  15. Jacob Dragonhunter Steadfast Player

Yeah, but the thing is... Oracle used to be Batgirl before she became Oracle.

So you mean to tell me you'd rather have this bulky and ugly suit to represent your upcoming birds of prey content versus I dunno a Batgirl suit? Like the rebirth one that people have been asking for?

Point being, there's much better options they could've gone for.

And no... I do not count Daring Vigilante, because that headpiece allows for No Hair to come through unlike her presence in the comics.

Bro, if you want to talk about morality police here on the forums; you gotta get yourself in check.

You keep using strawman arguments to just about everyone that replies to you as apart of "Them DCUO haters" whenever anyone has something negative to say about the game or time capsules.

Person 1: Time capsules are crappy because they are RNG and are attached to progression.

You: So your saying to get rid of time capsules, do you realize how successful these are?

Person 1: No... I just want feats removed.

You: So how will Daybreak make revenue?

    See my point?

There can be products that can be successful but still have things that players hate about it.

WWE 2K20 is a product being sold...
But it has the con of game-crashing glitches and visual glitches.

Do you want to accept that part of the game? Or do you want them to fix it and make it better? you tell me.

Likewise: All because you support time capsules and acknowledge that they are successful doesn't dismiss the fact that these things are sold as apart of in-game progression and people want that aspect removed.

Those all have a restriction of 21 years old or older for a reason. At that point, the world in general sees you as a grown adult. You can do what you want with your money even if there are obviously better ways to spend it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but we already have Batgirl, Huntress and a Blackhawk style. The only classic Bird missing is Black Canary and there isn't much to her style that isn't already in the game. We are getting styles inspired by Oracle, Hawk and Dove. So tell me what you thought you would see that isn't in the time capsule.

I've always been a huge fan of the Time Capsules.
They've had a lot of stuff I've enjoyed applying to my characters
I get that there are many players who despise them and go out of their way to make that clear.
I have no intention of arguing the point.
I could think of a thousand things I'd like to see in future Time Capsules.
I'd like to see a "what future time capsules/items?" thread in the DEV's discussion section.

Is every item in every TC going to be an instant must-have?
No. There are TCs I've had very little to do with except to get the quarks built up for when the next resurgence releases old prizes on Booster's inventory. The second chance vendor has actually made the collection gathering aspect a lot more fun for me. Now I collect what I can. if I complete a collection great! if the reward is something appropriate to one of my characters, I use it. if not, I'll sell it for a few mill to get some furniture for my bases win/win

Calculator's time capsule will be better :p

although the network infiltrator accessory looked kind of cool might go well with the holographic aura

If both were active at the same time, what makes you think anyone would go the RNG route especially if there were no changes to the current design of TCs? As I mentioned, even removing weighting, you would need to open on average 150 TCs (so spend about $150) to finish off a TC. There would only be something like 0.000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,006,08 % (this is actually single draw on a pool of 68 unweighted items) chance of completing the TC for less than you have assigned for the bundle. No, people would just spend the $70 and be done with it. And if you can sell the things you get for 70 (meaning they aren't account bound versions of the TC items), you would have people buying that $70 box multiple times to sell everything. So effectively you've removed TCs from the game and just put the styles on the marketplace (which to be fair is what many people want, but also is likely to generate less money). And if you are just putting things in the marketplace, why do one massive bundle? Why not break it out into normal gear bundle, enhanced gear bundle, normal emblem bundle, enhanced emblem bundle, each collection reward individually, and the rare drop (when then just ends up with a bigger price tag)?

In reality, getting rid of TCs altogether is not very likely to happen. The best we can hope for is publicly available odds (which is currently law in some countries, and is working its way through legislation in others) and/or removal of the artificial/subjective weighting on RNG. None of these items has a higher benefit than any other, outside what is artificially induced by weighting the RNG (and subjectively distributed stats on gear) and potentially reinforced by the distribution of feat points. As I mentioned, removing the weighting brings finishing a TC within the realm of "obtainable".

Getting rid of the collections could help as well, if they either just pick one item randomly or give you a few rolls across the full set of items (8 enhanced gear pieces, 8 regular gear pieces, 8 enhanced emblems, 8 regular emblems, 3 styles) and still leave the rare item as a possible bonus drop. With "no" choice, the average completion time for this set of 35 items is 145 TCs (the 150 number in my previous post was based on 36 collections where you would be picking either uncollected gear or an uncollected emblem every time you got a duplicate collection). So they could keep some moderate weighting, keep multiple selections, but each selection is from the total pool of items.

In short, there are a lot of options to choose from, that make would still result in a profit for them while also increasing the number of players engaged in opening TCs and making the rewards feel obtainable. The only thing they need to do is pick one, run some numbers internally, and most importantly try something new. On the JLD OP item, they tried something new, it engaged more players, but likely was a loss of projected income. However, they learned something and overall we ended up with an improvement over the collections for OP items.
