Neon Chroma Material and the paywall. I regret it.

So I'll admit, I had two $50 PSN cards that I have yet to use from Christmas and decided to try my luck earlier today. Tell me how I opened 112 TCs and didn't see one Neon Chroma Material. You guys, I mean "not one." I can't say anything out of anger because I was the one to buy the stabilizers but I'm so sick of things being locked behind TCs. Why can't this style just be bought off the Marketplace like most of the styles in this game should be?

I don't want to have to literally waste my time or money in the upcoming future. I just want you guys to know it's not worth it at all. Please spend your money on something beneficial and don't make the same mistake I did.

RNG makes Daybreak a ton of money, until players stop spending money chasing cosmetic items, you better believe the good ol RNG isn't going anywhere.

True. I'll try to limit my purchases for this game. I wonder how long it would take for them to switch up these practices if everyone went on strike?

If players only opened as many TC's as Stabilizers they get from running the event we would see a change in the atrocious Time Capsule money making scheme. Until then, players only have themselves to blame for the ridiculous drop rates and should not expect it to change anytime soon. TCs/Lootboxes are the worst money making scheme I have ever witnessed in gaming, even worst than Artifacts.

    I completely agree.

Trust me, the only reason why I even did it was because that was the "only" way to obtain the Neon Chromas. They knew what they were doing for sure though. It's a shame really. It's the management's greed that turned this game into what it is not the Devs. If they were well off in the past when they were only taking subscriptions and dlc money then TC and Artifacts were just for plain greed.

They want to be like EA and stack up on profit. To the higher ups at Daybreak, there is no such thing as "enough" money. EA broke the gaming industry and I can't wait until companies aren't allowed to do this anymore.

If I recall wasn't there a law being made to stop this foolishness from continuing? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fo...state-video-game-publishers-if-it-passes/amp/

The neon was my tipping point. The rarity. The insane in game ask price. And just the bad taste its left. With the whole economy thing. Ive lost my real desire to drop serious coin on this game anymore. But my lack of spending won't matter if there are always a few who will drop insane amount of money. I want the game to succeed and make money. But not this way.

I completely agree and like you, when it comes to spending money I don't think I can do it anymore. The only thing I will pay for is probably the subscription but even that might be a maybe. I only come back to the game so I can get styles I know will probably cost a fortune if I came back too late.

I personally don't even play PvE or PvP at all like I used to. Just daily, sell, buy, log off.

Nah. I just openly advise everyone to run the same racket I do.

Accounts are free. Make a lot of them. Run the Stabilizer Event every day on multiple accounts. Stockpile those Stabilizers.

When Ressurgence comes around, spend all those free Stabilizers on every account to open Ressurgence Capsules (getting you 9 capsules for only 7 stabilizers).

Then, in the hundreds of free Time Capsules you open, if you happen to get that rare Material or Collection or whatever that you want, you only have to spend $5 in order to turn that free account premium and it can trade the item to your main.

Literally you can unlock an unlimited number of time capsules for free by using this workaround, and you should never have to spend more than $5 for any given item. This method allows players to spend time instead of real-life money to be able to unlock those RNG items. I do this on only 10 extra accounts, and by the time Ressurgence comes around, I typically have enough to open around 25ish MegaCapsules, not counting what I do with my main. That's over 200 free time capsules. It's netted me quite a few rare styles along the way.

True but there's gotta be a tipping point. The OP spent $100 on TC's and didn't get it whereas someone could go to one of the cash sites, spend a fraction of that money and get enough DC cash to acquire it via trade chat. The more people have experiences like the OP's, the more people turn to the cash sellers and Daybreak loses money when that happens. Long term they're shooting themselves in the foot.

I'm by no means advocating going that route. I'm only making the point that when drop rates get too low to the point of seeming impossible, they're turning away paying customers.

you have my sympathies, man. to be fair, I'm approaching the walk away point, myself. I don't give a monkey's about the TCs or the chromas, myself, but I shouldn't be bullied by abysmal odds into having to spend real money just to level up my artifacts. I love this game, I truly do, & I understand that they need to make money, but what they're doing is wrong.

No need to pay to make them premium if you can get them into league with league hall.
A buddy of mine has a designated league exactly for that, just him and dozens of his accounts in there :D

so far ive stuck to my word. zero dollars spent on the game since i read the post the way they broke mental was too difficult for them to fix.

not regretting it. never spending another cent on the game. might even include my subscription in a few weeks.

That is definitely a solid work around but I don't have the love or dedication to DCUO that I once did. There is no way I'll take the time out of my day to run more than one character through the Stab event. What I do is horde up on Stabilizers from one TC to the next, open as many as I can from what I have stockpiled, sell everything day one and make a stupid amount of money. I then wait for about a week or 2 and then buy up everything I need for far less than what I originally sold it to get the Feats. I can't imagine how ridiculously priced the stuff in the next TC are going to cost and I plan on milking the multi-billionaires that just have to have everything day one. Same goes for the Anniversary Event today. Oh how the money is gonna roll in. lol.

If someone who have told me 5 years ago that DCUO would be going down the direction it is now I would have not believed them. Now, I'm just plain terrified of what their management is capable of.

I still hold a little thought in the back of my head, that the goldspammers are just DayBreak employees. xD

Lol! Omg, I never thought of that but if that was true I would be done! The funny thing is the fact that gold spammers still exists means the money glitch also still exists. The broker has not changed one bit and neither has the game since then. You could very well be onto something here.

This is the essence of gambling. We'll argue "it's not gambling" because you don't get money back (the legal definition), which if you think about it makes this situation even worse! The purpose of these loot crates is to get players to risk against the RNG in an attempt to get a reward. This stimulates brain activity and chemical production that can create habit-forming behaviors that don't care about the consequences.

It is extremely lucrative; do you think all those high-rise, massive hotel-casinos exist because the businesses lose money?

It is also extremely harmful to the risk-takers, who often sacrifice everything in order to get the next shiny.

While I am a massive DCUO shill, I am a staunch despiser of the F2P model. I wish I had an alternative system to propose, but the fact is that loot crates make money. Money keeps the game alive.

The odds, however, are despicable, and the fact that they won't tell you them even worse.
