So does the merging of the PC and PS servers mean the ultimate end of DCUO on PS3?

    P.S.
Haven't played on PS in over a year but based on stats, what percentage still plays on PS3 nowadays?

DCUO will be far from over/dead.. Alot of people say the population is down, but to that, i say, the play time is down.. Most players who leave DCUO USUALLY comes back whether its months from now or a year and change later.. What i honestly think is hurting DCUO is, the amount of things to do in DCUO has DRASTICALLY dropped, which leads to people doing daily missions then loggin off, or grinding for new gear then come back for next month's episode. That ultimately can be perceived as no one is barely online anymore, or a dip in the population. DCUO needs to find a way to make all content relevant again. whether its addin new feats, addin incentives that goes towards the end game grind.

Whatever happened to POWER INTERACTION weapons?
Whatever happened to REnown gear? Possibly increasing the renown again tied in with new feats, and exclusive faction gear and bonuses when wearing the set.. Need new grind besides end game gear.. its pretty much q up, get a bunch of marks and log off.

Alot of the things that made DCUO great was disregarded or forgotten about.. Hoping ill have that nostalgic feeling again like years ago.

You know, there's talk of the next generation PS5 and XB2 coming sooner than later, possibly adapting a 4-5 year plan instead of the 7-10 from last generations. AMD is already gunning for a setup that's five times more powerful to support 4k resolution and the requirements for VR processing. Typically when one of these consoles would release, they were ahead of standard for PC gaming by a few years at least, but when the PS4 and XB1 launched, they were simply at par with average gaming PCs. The next consoles would arrive faster to push that back to the old standard as a way to stem competition from the likes of the Steam box and other potential rivals. Pretty sure the next generation of consoles will be completely backwards compatible with the current gen stuff too, so there's a good chance you can skip over the PS4/XB1 for another few years as news of next gen hardware develops.

Actually VR is considered a console by itself and only using the XB1 and PS4 as a port to hold the data/saves for the games. If anything PS5 and XB2 wont be seen until after 2020, especially considering PS3 online platform isnt slated to be stopped until the end 2017 according to sony when asked the question at E3 they stated they will support the PS3 through 2017.

The next generation console is up in the air considering VR may see a big promotion considering several titles such as NFS, Forza, ESO, FFXIV, COD, are all supporting it for launch next year. Ideally you could wait and not get a PS4 or XB1, but then again you would be waiting for quite a very long time.

In regards to supporting the PS3 until 2017, that's very easy for them to do because they now have the unified network that is PSN. PSN currently unifies the PSP, PSV, PS3 and PS4, with additional support from PS Now, PS Vue and PS TV. Microsoft's Xbox Live supports the 360 and XB1, but they did not plan ahead with the original Xbox's service longevity, and it's support had been dropped soon after the 360 launched. It's worth noting that Sony has already ceased production of the PS3 in some countries. It's clear their focus is on digitally supporting the stable as it becomes more likely that PS3 titles will one day be open to backward compatible emulation.

The PS4 an XB1 were not top of the line at launch, so the tech has already been aging. A lot of studios are now looking to the 4K push, and over a shorter period of time, we'll see the prices of 4k standard devices come down faster than we saw 120hz and later 240hz TV's drop in price. Sony themselves have already released a 4k smartphone. The need to keep up with that is one that's involving both facets of the entertainment industry, and that's not one that Sony and Microsoft will sit around and wait for. It's very likely we will see the next generation of consoles much sooner than anticipated.

(A PS5 that supports 4k, VR, PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, PSV and PSP emulation would be absolutely insane)

The first ps3 was backwards compatible, very expensive, top of the line (so good in quality that sony could not keep up in production & the government even linked the consoles to make super computers). PS5 needs to be customizable & upgradeable like a PC, then it can hold onto longevity. I could imagine memory upgrades, processor upgrades, video upgrades. They could get a decent price selling parts & upgrades also.
