We’re teaming up with Extra Life again to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network!

    Hello, Norrathians!

Darkpaw Games is once again on a quest to play EverQuest and EverQuest II to help change kids' health by teaming up with Extra Life. This year, we’re back to supporting our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital: Rady Children's Hospital – San Diego, a nonprofit, 511-bed pediatric care facility and the region’s only pediatric trauma center. With 170 hospitals in the Children's Miracle Network, each location treats thousands of kids annually, regardless of their illness, injury, or family's ability to pay.

Last year, with all of your help, we surpassed our goal, and we aim to do the same this year. We are even more focused on helping local kids in need this year, setting our goal higher. And just like last year, Darkpaw Games will again kick off our fundraising with a donation of $5,000! Let's make this a great year, together. Also, for the first time, we are introducing several in-game incentives for both EQ and EQII as we meet various collective donation milestones! More on that in a bit.

We sincerely hope you'll consider spreading the word in-game, on social media, and to family and friends. If you're able to donate, please do, every little bit helps.

    About Rady Children’s Hospital
Rady Children’s is a renowned, award-winning children's hospital based in San Diego, CA. They do remarkable work in helping children from all walks of life and regardless of medical coverage recover from serious, life-threatening diseases and conditions. In 2021, Rady Children’s Hospital treated 281,469 kids. Click here to read more about Rady’s efforts to help kids.

    How Can I Help?
Regardless of your situation, we would simply love to know you’re on board with our efforts and willing to help. On our Extra Life page you’ll find share buttons which will generate a shout out for Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn along with a page URL button. Just sending out a message to your family, friends, and followers would be incredible and immensely appreciated. Please help us spread the word.

If you're able to give a donation, know that it is tax deductible and will go towards helping improve the health of thousands of children who are destined to change the future. Simply click on the "Donate" button at the top of the page to chip in.

You can also help by heading to our Extra Life page here and getting signed up to help us raise funds, or by logging into an existing account and joining our team.

    Incentives
We stepped up this year and wanted to provide all players of EverQuest II with collective as well as individual incentives for hitting various donation-level milestones. Donations have already begun so help spread the word and jump in today. We plan to send out occasional reminders throughout the month of October to help get the word out. To make this work, here are some important dates to keep in mind:

Thank you for reading about our plans for Extra Life this year, for being part of our amazing communities, and for helping in any way that you can. With your support, we can help kids in need of serious medical attention!

[Updated January 26, 2023] Earned Individual and Fundraiser incentives keys from Extra Life have now gone out based on the email associated with the donations that came in on or before December 31, 2022. We sincerely appreciate everyone's participation and in helping make 2022 a phenomenal year! If for any reason the keys you receive do not work or return an error message, please contact Angeliana or Accendo via PM on the forums.

Also, we have been made aware that some emails with the Extra Life codes were missing formatting. The codes themselves work if you will edit it in the follow way:

    1. Remove the EQ/EQII from the beginning of the code.
    2. Then the code should be 4x characters in 5 sets, like this:
    1A1A-A1AA-1AAA-1A11-AA1A
    1B1B-B1BB-1BBB-1B11-BB1B
    1C1C-C1CC-1CCC-1C11-CC1C
    1D1D-D1DD-1DDD-1D11-DD1D

This is a fabulous charity for sick kids, and a great way for gamers to "play it forward". I'm very happy to see Daybreak add in some extra incentives this year!

How do the individual contributions work? How do they link back to your EQ2 or DBG account?

I love Extra Life, good to see Eq2 still doing it :)

Those of us raising funds are able to send thank you email to even anonymous donors (we don't see the email address and Extra Life handles the message routing) so we can ask those who do not include character name and server information in their donor name. This will allow us to track who is donating from which character for which game so we can make sure that the proper players are reward flagged. (Of course, anonymous donors can stay anonymous if they so desire, but if they want the individual rewards, they can be granted without broadcasting their donation information to the world.

Correction: Extra Life will be helping us distribute claim keys to everyone that donates to someone from the Darkpaw Extra Life team* after game day, and they will know who has donated how much, and you can use the key on whomever you prefer. (Anyone signed up on that team, not just employees.)

Update to the article: Darkpaw Games will be donating $5,000 to kick things off again.

ok I'm gonna go make a donation right now!

Also, anyone with a corporate job, check to see if your company does matching donations. It might not count towards this campaign but I know that I can send the receipt for my donation in to work and they will eventually match it (probably at end of the quarter). I bet a lot of folks might have similar circumstances.

    Hi Denmum,

Thank you for your efforts towards this noble cause.

I did notice that a few (and counting) "team members" may not be Darkpaw employees.

So do you have to sign up as a team member or ensure that your donation goes toward a Darkpaw employee (who can send a 'Thank you' email)?

Neither is required. They'll get donor rewards sorted out as things go on. Those who want to actively participate as a team member can do so (the more the merrier), or they can donate to whomever they want of the people who have signed up to participate for Team Darkpaw. The team leads (Community) will also have access to being able to send out mail, I believe.

I'm just speaking up so much as I've participated in several of these Extra Life game days over the years (3 different years according to Extra Life, but there was one other year that was under a different email addy and got lost) and I know how things work ... ish. :)

I truly am happy to see the enthusiasm for this great cause.

Thanks for the clarification!! I defer to your expertise. Wishing a successful campaign. :)

I was mistaken in how it will work and I updated my post above.

Basically, Extra Life will be helping us distribute keys to donors to our team, based on how much they donated. Much less convoluted and easier to track. :)

I'd like to know this as well. What are these personal treasure caches?

If we donate to a higher tier, will we get all titles below it as well? Or will we have to make individual donations for each amount?

Thanks for the fun incentives to give to a great cause!

Just read the small print, I see that that all tiers are included.... face palm hehe

I suspect screenshots of the various rewards will be along once there is time during actual business hours to deal with them. Weekends are bad for question overload. :D

Also note that while the "Extra Life" label is used here, it is the public-facing name of the gamer-targeted fundraiser and the funds go through the registered nonprofit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Your donation receipts (for U.S. tax purposes) will come through them. There's tons of information publicly available out there about them and their charitabe efforts, and the wiki link above gives you a good snapshot of information regarding them.

You have all been asking, and now we have some clarification in regard to the individual incentives.

We are working with Extra Life directly to make sure everyone will get their rewards. After game day, we will provide keys to the Extra Life organization for them to distribute directly to the donors through their e-mail address. Then in January we'll do a catch-up distribution for any additional donations that come through after our pull and before the end of the year. You can donate to anyone on the Darkpaw Games Extra Life team, and you will get incentives. Please do not send your information directly to us, as it is not required for anything on our end.

Please feel free to continue reaching out to the Community Team if you have further questions, and we will do our best to get back to you with answers as quickly as possible.
