Hello Norrathians! If you're a regular watcher of The EverQuest Show, you've probably seen the "Say What?" segments where players and developers say different words in Norrath. In the next week, I'll be releasing a collection of all these segments along with several words that haven't been edited or released. That's where YOU come in : I'm looking for more videos of players saying certain words and I'll use you in the "Say What" Special! HERE"S WHAT YOU DO: 1) Record a quick video (cell phone works, but please, horizontal video, not vertical) of yourself saying the following words SoW Ykesha Lceanium Luclin Qeynos 2) Send the video to me in ONE of the following ways: Email : fadingillusion11@gmail.com -or- Upload it to your youtube channel and send/post a link -or- Send via Discord : Fading#6346 -or- Send a link to your dropbox file -or- Tweet your video and tag @EverQuestShow -or- Open to any alternate methods if you would prefer. Get creative! Feel free to send a series of multiple takes and you can also add commentary if you prefer "My brother says SO but I say SOW" etc. The bolded words are the most important. You can say all the words in one video. And feel free to ask questions (reply to this post) and I'll answer them. Thanks for the help and I'm looking forward to "hearing" from you all! Fading
I'll also accept videos of: your family members saying these words your boss saying them your 2 year old niece Bruce Springsteen Random people Talking cats Anything else creative or fun Have fun, but please keep it clean!
Thanks for making these videos we really enjoy them. If either of us can figure out how to video ourselves, we're game.
Every smart phone can take video! It's that simple! Just have fun with it. Can shoot it with your Android/iPhone then email it from there. Or send it via any of the other methods I mentioned above. Can even do it as a selfie (But please, horizontal, not vertical video). I'll clean everything up in editing and it will be a blast! Fading
The first Fan Faire I went to was illuminating on how people, including SOE/daybreak developers, etc., pronounce the various words and acronyms. I am looking forward to seeing your video.
Sow = as in sow a field (long o in the ow dipthong) Yuh-kesh-ah Lie-sen-ee-um Luck-lynn Kay-nose (but with a short s) Hey, but we agree on one
Same but Looselin since a c in the middle of a word is soft. I don't care I'd some stupid mob in ME has a speech impediment.
The c is followed by a consonant which means it would have a hard c sound, not soft as it would if it were followed by a vowel. (Pronunciations, and disagreements on pronunciations, in English is so endemic of the multiple waves of invasions on that little island and the attempts to put the language into a Latin-like grammar. I really should have gone into linguistics because I find it fascinating and highly amusing not just with English but with all other languages I have learned in any amount. Sadly, I'm no longer fluent in any but English because I never use any other.)
Like cat right? Aside from both of us being wrong, I did look up the rule. It's soft if y, i, or e follows the c. All other letters are hard. Therefor it is Lucklin and I owe many apologies to people my pronunciation has offended over the years.
Yes! I know! But there's always future episodes/seasons! I'm hoping if there is ever a FanFaire/Convention/GenCon Meetup (I may plan something?) that I can get mass video of players! Fading
I should have said soft vowel. I was not fully braining The one that's really interesting for vowels is Gaelic with which vowels have to be on opposite sides of a consonant and then the aspirated consonants changing the sound of the letter entirely. Sidhe is pronounced "sheeh" because the "i" makes the S into a silibant "sh" sound and the h aspirates the d to make it a soft almost h sound. And then the order of the ie/ei in German... ie being a long e sound and ei being a long i sound. Things like that fascinate me. And English borrows from them all and it's messy (which amuses me). It's all so weird
SoW (SOW) Ykesha(Y'-KEE-shuh) Lceanium(L'-SEE-nee-um) Luclin (LOOS-lin) Qeynos (KAY-nohs) I like to hear people pronounce (and even spell) "Oubliette".
Sow - sow or sew, I kinda randomly say either lol Yuh Kesha Lih see nium Qeynos - kway nohs, always felt this was probably wrong but stuck with it.
Great response so far, and I'm loving all the videos! Last call for submissions! I'll be finalizing the Special in about 24 hours! So get those videos in! Thanks! Fading
THANK YOU! To all the players that submitted videos! The EverQuest Show - "Say What?" is NOW LIVE! Be sure to comment with YOUR pronunciations! Fading
I was too lazy to make a video SoW - Like the pig Ykesha - Yak-she-uh, due to years of early playing when people could barely spell item names right and just calling SSoYs "Yaks" Lceanium - Luh-key-knee-um Luclin - Luck-lin Qeynos - Quay-noes (Quay being pronounced (right) as Kway)
